1. ONE OF THE STARS USED TO BE A BALLET DANCER. 

Ilan Mitchell Smith, a.k.a. The Other One, not Anthony Michael Hall, attended the Joffrey Ballet School on a scholarship before he got into acting. Following his stint, he became an academic and is now a professor of middle ages English Literature in Cal State Long Beach.

5. THREE MONTHS AFTER THE OPEN FILM, GEEK ANTHONY MICHAEL HALL, AND BULLY ROBERT DOWNEY JR. WERE REUNITED AS SNL CAST MEMBERS. 

Hall was just 17 at that Time, making him the youngest SNL cast member so far. He also Downey was two out of the six new hires that only lasted that one season before Lorne Michaels retooled the cast. Here they are on Weekend Update, reviewing a book with farts.

That would be Niles East High School, in Skokie, Illinois. It'd closed in 1980, which explains why it was available for movie shoots. Since that time, it's been torn down. 

8. SIXTEEN CANDLES AND WEIRD SCIENCE 

Are located in the same fictional town of Shermer, Illinois. Hughes made up the name, but he obtained it from a real origin: Shermerville was the original name of Northbrook Hughes hometown.
